Berthe van Regemorter, relieuse d’art à Anvers de 1910 à 1944, a décoré ses reliures aux petits fers ; les décors sont caractérisés par des motifs composés de petits fers dorés, parfois mosaïqués, et inspirés de la flore et de la géométrie.
Ses reliures sont souvent signées en toute lettre en queue du contreplat antérieur. A part les portefeuilles (pour adresses d’hommage) qui ont un intérêt local, on trouve avant tout la littérature française, souvent en tirages spéciaux.
En vue d’un catalogue raisonné de son œuvre, je cherche à localiser (et décrire) le plus grand nombre de reliures de cette artiste, qu’elles soient conservées dans des collections privées ou des institutions publiques.

Berthe van Regemorter, kunstboekbindster te Antwerpen tussen 1910 en 1944, heeft boekbanden goudgestempeld ‘aux petits fers’, gekenmerkt door motieven en patronen opgebouwd uit floraal of geometrisch geïnspireerde kleine stempels, soms met leermozaïek.
De meeste banden zijn gesigneerd.onderaan het voordekblad of de doublure. Behalve ‘portefeuilles’ als omhulsel van huldeadressen met lokaal belang, betreft het vnl. Franse literatuur, dikwijls in bijzondere oplage.
Met het oog op een œuvrecatalogus gaat het er mij om zoveel mogelijk banden te kunnen localiseren (en beschrijven) zowel in particuliere collecties als in openbare instelligen.

Berthe van Regemorter, art bookbinder in Antwerp between 1910 and 1944, decorated her bindings with small and (almost) abstract tools in gold (‘aux petits fers’). Her designs are made up of these abstract and floral tools, sometimes in combination with leather onlay or mosaic.
Most of her bindings are signed, at the bottom of the front pastedown or the doublure. Her bindings usually cover French literature of her own time, often in special editions. She also made and decorated leather portfolios for festive addresses (of local interest).
I am working on a comprehensive catalogue of Van Regemorter’s work and therefore try to localise and describe as many of her bindings as possible, both in private as in public collections.
