Les escaliers de Québec : jeu de jambes et désirs suspendus
Exposition internationale de reliure d’art programmée pour automne 2012

Voici un projet qui ne manque pas d’élévation, puisqu’il s’agit d’escaliers. Les escaliers sont à la ville de Québec ce que les gondoles sont à Venise, les felouques à l‘Égypte, les treuils et les paniers aux monastères des monts Météores ! Ils font partie intégrante de la ville ; ils en constituent l’un de ses symboles par excellence. Avant de devenir un lieu d’exercice pour les « escalophiles », ils furent utilisés quotidiennement par la population pour passer de la basse à la haute-ville et vice versa.

L’ouvrage de grande qualité, Les escaliers de Québec, édité en 2008 à l’occasion du 400e anniversaire de la ville de Québec, tire son origine d’un travail de collaboration entre un auteur, une conceptrice, un maître imprimeur. Il se présente sous plis parallèles, en accordéon. Il a été tiré en vingt-cinq (25) exemplaires numérotés de 1 à 25, et en douze (12) exemplaires hors commerce numérotés de 1 à 12. La composition typographique, en Garamond léger et gras corps 14, prend appui sur un papier chiffon Somerset, 250 g. Chaque exemplaire contient onze (11) dessins originaux faits à la main. Ce qui confère à l’ensemble de l’ouvrage une remarquable singularité.

Conditions de participation

1. Il est nécessaire, pour participer, de se procurer un exemplaire numéroté de l’ouvrage.
2. Les premiers arrivés, les premiers retenus.
3. Les dimensions maximales de la reliure ne doivent pas dépasser 25 cm x 30 cm
(format fermé). La reliure ne doit contenir aucun liquide, verre fin ou tout autre matériau
fragile. L’ouvrage terminé ne peut peser plus de 4 kg.
4. Coût de l’exemplaire: Pour les membres de l’ARA, le coût est de 300 $ canadiens ou de 225 euros; pour les non-membres, le coût est de 340 $ canadiens ou de 255 euros. Faire le règlement par chèque à l’intérieur du Canada, par traite bancaire ou par mandat poste à l’extérieur du pays, les deux, libellé au nom de l’ARA Canada. Ces frais doivent parvenir, accompagnés de la fiche d’inscription* dûment remplie, avant le 15 septembre 2011, à l’adresse suivante :

5. Dès réception de votre inscription et du paiement complet, nous vous ferons parvenir
un exemplaire signé et numéroté. Ce montant comprend les frais inhérents à l’exposition : un exemplaire numéroté signé par l’auteur, Luc Bureau et par la conceptrice, Ghislaine Bureau, les frais d’envoi de l’exemplaire et la réexpédition de la reliure à la fin de l’exposition, le catalogue d’exposition ainsi que l’invitation au vernissage. Cependant, les frais d’envoi de l’œuvre reliée, aux fins de l’exposition, sont à la charge de l’expéditeur.
6. La reliure ainsi que la fiche descriptive* devront parvenir à l’adresse ci-haut mentionnée avant le 1er mai 2012 .
7. L’assurance, pour le transport aller et retour ainsi que pour la durée de l’exposition, est à la charge du participant.
L’emballage, très résistant, devra être réutilisable pour le renvoi de la reliure et porter le nom et l’adresse de l’expéditeur. Une étiquette de réexpédition sera à inclure dans l’envoi.
8. La fiche d’inscription signée confirme l’acceptation des conditions de participation.
9. Échéancier :15 septembre 2011, fin des inscriptions.

28 septembre au 26 octobre 2012 : Exposition à la bibliothèque Chrystine Brouillet, Québec, Canada.

Next year we will celebrate 25 YEARS OF SWISS-ARA.

This anniversary will be held in the form of an international competition of binding with art exhibition of works at the Château d’Aigle, 14.09. to 1.11.2012. Each participant may submit only one book,. Only books technically well executed will be exposed. The jury, made up of professionals, will decide.

Prizes for winners : 1st prize CHF 1.000,-- / 2nd prize CHF 700,-- / 3rd prize CHF 500,--.

Friday 14.09.2012 : 18h inauguration with aperitif at Aigle Castle.

Saturday 15.09.2012 : Visit the library of Valais, the library of the Abbey of St-Maurice and gala
Dinner.

Sunday 16.09.2012 : Visit the medieval village of Gruyères and fondue.

Sommigen onder u hebben de tentoonstelling « Micheline de Bellefroid » te Mariemont bezocht en wellicht ook de video gezien waarin zij uitlegde hoe het Kromekote papier gemaakt was.
Om deze techniek verder uit te diepen krijgen we van Françoise Bausart de kans om aan een workshop deel te nemen. Deze vindt plaats IKA Veemarkt 39 te Mechelen, op zaterdag 28 april 2012 van 10.00 tot 13.00.
De kosten van deze activiteit zullen door onze vereniging ten laste genomen worden, en is bijgevolg enkel toegankelijk voor ARA-leden die in 2012 hun lidmaatschap hernieuwd hebben.
We vragen aan de geïnteresseerden om zo vlug mogelijk in te schrijven door middel van het hierbijgevoegd antwoordcoupon. We zullen de inschrijvingen afsluiten van zodra het maximum aantal deelnemers bereikt is en ten laatste op 15 april.

Eerste tentoonstelling Morioka te IWATE MUSEUM OF ART van 03/03 tot 25/03/2012

Morioka (盛岡市 Morioka-shi?) is the capital city of Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

As of 2005, the city has an estimated population of 300,740 and a population density of 588.11 persons per km². The total area is 489.15 km².

Morioka was founded in 1597 by Nobunao, the 26th lord of the Nanbu clan, as a castle town. In 1655 Nanbu-han was divided into Morioka-han and Hachinohe-han. Its name was changed from 森岡 to 盛岡 (both read as Morioka) in 1683 when the population was 36,000. The city was designated the capital of Iwate on April 1, 1889.(Wikipedia)

Tweede tentoonstelling Ofunato te OFUNATO CIVIC CULTURAL HALL van 05/04 tot 08/04/2012

Ōfunato is situated fairly close to an undersea volcano, and suffers from frequent earthquakes of various scales.
The 1896 Meiji-Sanriku earthquake caused a 25 metre tsunami which killed 27,000 people in Sanriku.
The 1933 Sanriku earthquake had a magnitude of 8.4 and caused a 28 metre tsunami which killed 1522 people.
The city became internationally famous when it was hit by a tsunami caused by the Valdivia earthquake in Chile on 22 May 1960.
Ōfunato hit the headlines yet again when it was heavily damaged in the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.[1] The wave is estimated to have reached 23.6 meters in height.[2] Funnelled in by the narrow bay, the tsunami continued inland for 3 kilometres.[3] The town's theatre was one of very few buildings left standing (and remarkably, was undamaged) and gave shelter to about 250 survivors.[4][5] Provisional counts listed 3,498 houses out of 15,138 houses in the town destroyed by the tsunami and 305 lives were confirmed lost.[6][7] At least six of the town's 58 designated evacuation sites were inundated by the tsunami.[8] (Wikipedia)

De vereniging ARA Belgica heeft het genoegen haar leden uit te nodigen voor een bezoek aan de overzichtstentoonstelling van het werk van Micheline de Bellefroid onder de deskundige leiding van Mevrouw Delattre.

Micheline de Bellefroid (1927-2008) is onbetwistbaar één van de opmerkelijkste boekbindsters die België in de tweede helft van de 20ste eeuw gehad heeft. In een bewonderenswaardige mengeling van technische perfectie en artistieke creatie heeft ze nagenoeg alle grote litteraire teksten van haar tijd bekleed. Haar werk is nu verspreid in de grootste publieke en privé verzamelingen in de wereld.

De tentoonstelling van Mariemont is de eerste overzichtstentoonstelling gewijd aan deze grote dame van het Belgische boekbanden. Gesteund door naaste familieleden van Micheline de Bellefroid en talrijke belangrijke persoonlijkheden in de wereld van het boek zal deze tentoonstelling de uitzonderlijke gelegenheid geven een groot aantal van deze boekbanden te bewonderen. Een honderdtal werkstukken, waarvan 50 versierde boekbanden, geven de gelegenheid om de evolutie van haar creatie te volgen. Haar hele productie getuigt van een standvastige wil van juistheid en strengheid en ook van een permanente zorg voor onderzoek en vindingrijkheid.

Daarnaast is Micheline de Bellefroid ook bekend voor haar techniek van papierdecoratie, zgn. Kromekote. Gebruikt als versiering voor omslagen, etuis of schutbladen biedt dit versierd papier een visuele luxe aan die met glans en doorzichtigheid speelt.

De tentoonstelling loopt van 19 november 2011 tot en 12 februari 2012

We beschikken nog over enkele standaard albums (30 x 30cm) die onze leden gratis kunnen verkrijgen teneinde het boekblok te recupereren en dan met een nieuwe boekband te bekleden.

Onze vrienden in Japan zullen een catalogus op CD uitgeven en de deelnemers krijgen hiervan uiteraard een exemplaar. Hun tentoonstellingen zullen een unieke gelegenheid zijn om onze boekbandkunst te tonen in het Verre Oosten.

Boekbinders die geen lid zijn van ARA Belgica kunnen eveneens deelnemen mits betaling van € 40,00 op onze rekening.

Dear bookbinder friends,

Six months have passed since the big earthquake and the reconstruction is far from finished. We, the members of the Tokyo Bookbinding Club together with Sün Evrard, who is also a member of our association, invite you to create and offer hand-bound photo albums to those who recovered family photographies in the mud and ruins after the tsunami.

We named this event the « OKAERI PROJECT ». This means in japanese that the rescued and restored photographies will be returned to their owners. For those who lost almost everything, the value of a retrieved picture is enormous in itself, the fact that it will be put into an album especially made for them means a step towards future, a ray of hope.

Once we received the hand-bound albums, we will organise a series of exhibitions, showing our human and artistic solidarity to the earthquake victims.

The collected entry fee (4000 yens minimum) will cover the costs of the restoration of the damaged photographies, the expenses of the exhibitions and the catalogue on CD.

The Entry Form, joined to this e-mail can also be found on our website http://bookbinding.jp/ as well as details about the locations of the exhibitions and dates. The catalogue of the exhibition will be sent to you on a CD.

The size of the albums should not exceed 30 cm x 33 cm and should contain about ten sheets.

The deadline for entries is the 31st of October, 2011.
The albums should arrive to our address not later than the 15th of February, 2012.
